Dutch: “Belastingdienst genomineerd voor Big Brother Award”
Unofficial translation:
Bits of Freedom has nominated the Dutch Tax Authorities for a Big Brother Award, the annual prize for the biggest privacy violator. On 22 January 2019, the Big Brother Awards Audience Award will be awarded to the person or organization that, according to the voting public, made ‘the grossest infringement on the privacy of the Dutch’ in the past year.
The Tax Authorities did not make a good impression this year, as it was ‘technically impossible’ to secure personal data and therefore only expected to be able to comply with the statutory privacy rules in 2019. In addition, the authorities continue to violate the privacy of freelancers by using the BSN (general tax number) for the VAT number.
