France’s E-Invoicing Landscape: Compliance Tips for Local Businesses

  • Mandatory E-Invoicing in France: France has mandated e-invoicing for B2G transactions since January 1, 2020, and is moving towards mandatory e-invoicing and e-reporting for all businesses, including B2B and B2C transactions, by 2027 to enhance compliance and efficiency.
  • Implementation and Compliance: Businesses must transmit invoices through government-approved channels like the Portail Public de Facturation (PPF), Partner Dematerialization Platforms (PDPs), or Dematerializing Operators (ODs). Invoices must adhere to specific formats (UBL 2.1, UN/CEFACT CII, Factur-X) and be reported in real-time.
  • Preparation for Businesses: To comply, businesses should audit existing systems, map out stakeholders and invoice processes, find suitable e-invoicing platforms, prioritize training and support for staff, and seek expert assistance to ensure compliance with France’s e-invoicing regulations.
