Belgium issues new B2B e-invoicing guidance ahead of 2026 introduction

From 1st January 2026, Belgium will implement mandatory B2B e-invoicing, requiring businesses to process all B2B transactions through structured electronic invoices. The new regulations will require e-invoices to comply with the EN 16931 format, using the Peppol-BIS standard, and PDFs will not be allowed after 31st December 2025. Almost all transactions between Belgian VAT-registered businesses will be subject to the new e-invoicing laws. Approval from the European Commission is pending for Belgium to enforce its e-invoicing legislation. International transactions involving parties outside Belgium will require prior agreement for e-invoicing. Technical rules are in place to ensure authenticity, integrity, and readability of e-invoices.
