Businesses wishing to exchange messages via Peppol must use a Peppol Access Point. There are two options for businesses: a) become a Peppol Access Point themselves, or b) use a Peppol Access Point service provided by a service provider. Before deciding on the preferred Access Point strategy, decision makers should consider the following key points:
- 1. Implementation: Does the in-house team have the technical expertise to set up the necessary Peppol infrastructure, including software engineering and Peppol-specific expertise?
- 2. Support & Maintenance: The infrastructure needs to be operated and maintained, including implementing security updates, software patches, and new software versions.
- 3. Operation: Can the Peppol infrastructure be operated 24/7 according to Peppol’s service level agreements? Access Point members are expected to fulfill certain service level requirements.
- 4. Scalability: Consider whether to focus solely on Peppol or support other concepts such as sending invoices by email or in EDIFACT form via AS2.
- 5. ERP Integration: The level of integration of the Peppol Access Point in the ERP system will significantly impact the visibility of sent and received documents.
