Russia Wants To Take VAT From Belarusian Sellers Selling Online

  • The Russian government has proposed a bill to the State Duma, stating that starting from July 1, 2024, sellers from the EAEU who sell goods to Russian individuals through electronic trading platforms will be required to pay VAT to the Russian budget.
  • Currently, these sellers do not have to pay VAT in Russia if they pay taxes in the EAEU.
  • The bill aims to create more favorable conditions for Russian trade by equalizing VAT taxation for Russian and foreign taxpayers.
  • If adopted, the law will come into force one month after its official publication and is expected to apply to individual entrepreneurs from the EAEU from January 1, 2025.
