The Council of the European Union authorizes Sweden to continue applying a reduced rate of excise duty on electricity consumed by households and service sector companies in certain areas in the north of Sweden until 31 December 2023. The reduction is limited to SEK 96 per MWh and aims to compensate for the higher heating costs in the region. The measure is in line with EU policies and should not distort competition or trade between Member States. The authorization is granted for a period of 6 years and complies with Directive 2003/96/EC.
