Obligation to use structured electronic invoices – Second reading

  • The Council of Ministers has approved a draft law proposed by Finance Minister Vincent van Peteghem, which makes the use of structured electronic invoices mandatory. The draft law amends the Value Added Tax Code to require taxable persons to issue structured electronic invoices. The aim is to maximize the benefits of electronic invoicing by enabling automated and digital processing.
  • This is the first step towards modernizing VAT data flows and utilizing modern technologies. A communication campaign will be launched to inform about the future implementation of electronic invoicing.
  • The objective is to establish clear agreements on interoperability at the national level and create conditions for widespread adoption of electronic invoicing.
  • The draft law will now be submitted to the King for signature and then to the Chamber of Representatives.
