Implementation of Reduced VAT Rates for Agricultural Goods in Greece

  • The Greek General Directorate of Customs & Excise has issued a directive regarding the application of reduced VAT rates for agricultural goods.
  • The directive, E.2063/2023, provides instructions for the integration of the TARIC subsystem and the management of the reduced VAT rate of 13% for goods under paragraph 55, added to Chapter A GOODS of Annex III of the VAT Code.
  • The directive is in line with the provisions of Article 31§2 of Law 5057/2023 and is effective from November 1, 2023.
  • The integration into the TARIC system was implemented through the creation of two new National Additional Codes (NAC), NAC 1164 and NAC 1165, which will be used from November 1, 2023.
  • The reduced VAT rate of 13% applies only to specific items of the aforementioned Customs Classes (CC) and not to the entire range of each CC.
  • From November 1, 2023, for items that fall under the aforementioned CC, it will be possible to choose one of four cases to apply either the reduced or the standard VAT rate using the appropriate NAC.
