- The European Commission has given Romania permission to introduce mandatory electronic invoicing for B2B transactions from January 1, 2024.
- This is to deviate from EU VAT Directive Articles 219 and 232. Romania applied for permission in 2022 and initially planned to launch in July of the same year.
- The authorization will be valid for three years until December 2026 or until the ViDA proposal is adopted.
- Romania will need to make adjustments to comply with ViDA as its current system is not fully aligned.
