As part of a presentation held in early March 2023, the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) of Malaysia shared a proposed timeline for the introduction and gradual implementation of an electronic invoicing (“e-invoicing”) system in Malaysia. Implementation would commence in 2023 for selected companies and gradually would be rolled out to other businesses based on their annual sales, with all businesses being required to adopt e-invoicing by January 2027. Despite the relatively short timeline for implementation, specific information on the type of e-invoicing system to be adopted in Malaysia has not yet been made publicly available.
