Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) issued a public notice on 7 November 2022 regarding the appointment of certain companies to withhold VAT. The notice provides that with effect from 1 January 2023, the telecommunications companies MTN and Airtel, as well as all money deposit banks are appointed to withhold or collect VAT charged on all taxable supplies made to them (i.e., reverse charge).
