Recommendations of the 47th Meeting of India’s GST Council Include Registration Waiver Threshold for Supplies via E-Commerce Operators

India’s Press Information Bureau has published a release on the recommendations of the 47th meeting of India’s GST Council. One of the key recommendations is changing the mandatory GST registration requirement for persons supplying goods or services through an electronic commerce operator. Currently required without any turnover threshold, the GST council has recommended a waiver of mandatory registration if aggregate turnover in India does not exceed the general registration threshold of INR 2 million (20 lakh) per year and the person is not making any inter-State taxable supplies. The GST Council has also recommended VAT rate adjustments for several different supplies, as well as the withdrawal of several exemptions.
