Since 2015, Uruguay has undertaken various initiatives in the granting of benefits for the import of electric vehicles, such as reducing customs tariffs on such vehicles from 23% to 0%.
On January 1, 2022, Uruguay took another step by eliminating the IMESI or excise tax (internal tax on the first sale of goods) applied to the purchase of all-electric vehicles, thus reducing the rate from 5.75% to 0% (for conventional vehicles, this rate can reach up to 115%)
