Nigerian oil state claims control of VAT in battle over nation’s wealth

The government of a state in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta region has said it would collect value added tax (VAT) in its territory rather than leaving it for a federal agency, a move that threatens the way the nation’s wealth is shared out.
