GSTN’s Advisory for Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification for GST Registration Applicants of Maharashtra and Lakshadweep

  • Advisory Issuance: The GST Network (GSTN) issued Advisory No. 582 on February 8, 2025, detailing the new application process for GST registration in Maharashtra and Lakshadweep, which incorporates Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication and document verification.
  • Application Process Changes: Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017 has been amended to allow applicants to be identified through biometric data, including a photograph and verification of original documents. After submitting the application via Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive either a link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication or a link to book an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric verification.
  • Requirements for GSK Visit: Applicants must carry specific documents to the GSK, including the appointment confirmation email, Aadhaar and PAN cards, and original documents uploaded with the application. Biometric authentication and document verification will be conducted at the GSK, and applicants are advised to schedule their appointments within the permissible application period for timely processing.
