- Implementation of the NBS: Jordan is advancing its mandatory e-invoicing system, the National Billing System (NBS), which enables businesses to electronically issue and manage invoices, either directly or via API integration, to enhance compliance with tax regulations.
- Mandatory Participation and Support: Since May 31, 2024, all taxpayers are required to join the NBS. The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) is actively engaging with professional groups, providing a grace period for adoption, and waiving fines to facilitate a smooth transition to the new system.
- Expansion to Phase 2: In January 2025, the ISTD announced Phase 2 of the NBS, which will include local purchases of goods and services starting April 1, 2025. Invoices for these transactions must be issued through the NBS to be valid for tax-deductible expenses, promoting supplier compliance and enhancing transparency in the tax system.
