What is PEPPOL?

  • Overview of Peppol: Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line) is a framework established to standardize electronic invoicing and procurement documents, enhancing interoperability between countries. It started in the EU in 2008 and has since expanded to include countries in Asia and beyond.
  • Functionality: Peppol facilitates the electronic exchange of documents like e-invoices through a network of accredited Access Points, allowing businesses and public organizations to send and receive invoices efficiently. It aims to create a uniform method for business-to-government (B2G) transactions across member countries.
  • Global Adoption and Models: Peppol has been implemented in 37 countries, including Australia, Japan, and Singapore. It operates on a 4-corner model that enhances security and connectivity in transactions, with a 5-corner model in some regions allowing tax authorities to access invoices in real-time for compliance purposes.
