The Legislative Assembly imposes new obligations to mandatory and optional invoice recipient data

  • New Invoicing Obligations: Legislative Decree No. 94 of 2024 establishes new rules for mandatory and optional recipient data on invoices in El Salvador, specifying conditions under which recipient information must be included.
  • Mandatory Data Requirements: For transactions of USD 25,000 or more, or when documentation is required for deductible expenses, it is mandatory to include the recipient’s name, business name, and identification number, which can vary based on customer type.
  • Penalties for Non-Compliance: A fine of 30% of the transaction amount or a minimum of two monthly salaries in the commerce sector will be imposed for failing to provide the required recipient information, effective from 27 September 2024.
