European Commission’s ESPR and Digital Product Passports: Impact on CTC Models

  • The European Commission has introduced the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact through improved product design and manufacturing processes.
  • The ESPR expands the scope of previous regulations to include a wide range of products beyond energy-consuming items, setting stringent criteria for durability, reusability, repairability, recyclability, and energy efficiency.
  • The ESPR introduces Digital Product Passports (DPP) to provide a digital record of product information throughout its lifecycle, enhancing transparency and enabling informed decisions regarding sustainability. While the ESPR does not directly address e-invoicing or Continuous Transaction Control (CTC) models, the integration of DPP with digital invoicing and CTC systems may streamline compliance and reporting processes in the future.
