Amazon will enforce strict CE marking requirements for battery-related products sold on its platform in line with the new EU Batteries Regulation, effective from August 18, 2024. The regulation replaces the EU Batteries Directive and introduces requirements for product safety, circular economy, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Sellers who fail to comply risk having their products removed from the platform. The regulation covers standalone batteries and batteries contained within products. Key dates to remember include February 18, 2024 for responsible person requirements, and August 18, 2024 for CE marking requirements. The regulation applies to various battery types but excludes batteries for military, spatial, and nuclear equipment. Sellers must complete a conformity assessment, obtain a Declaration of Conformity (DoC), and affix the CE marking by August 18, 2024.
