Commission imposes provisional countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles from China while discussions with China continue
The European Commission has imposed provisional countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China due to unfair subsidization, causing a threat of economic injury to EU BEV producers. Consultations with the Chinese government are ongoing to reach a WTO-compatible solution. The individual duties for sampled Chinese producers range from 17.4% to 37.6%, with other producers subject to a 20.8% weighted average duty. The provisional duties will apply from 5 July 2024 for a maximum of four months, pending a final decision on definitive duties by EU Member States.
