- Starting January 1, 2025, a German regulation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Single-Use Plastic will impact sellers of products containing single-use plastics on Amazon.de and other online marketplaces.
- The regulation aims to promote sustainable waste management and reduce plastic pollution. It applies to producers, importers, and distributors of single-use plastic products.
- Sellers must comply with EPR requirements and submit registration numbers to Amazon before January 1, 2025, or their listings will be deactivated.
- Single-Use Plastic (SUP) products include food containers, bags, beverage containers, cups, plastic carrier bags, wet wipes, balloons, and tobacco products with filters.
- Producers in Germany can register on the German Environment Agency’s Single-Use Plastics Fund platform, while non-German producers can create accounts from April 1, 2024, and register from August 1, 2024.
- They will also need to report annual sales of SUP products to DIVID starting in 2025 and pay corresponding eco-fees.
