Estonia vetoed the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) proposal for the second time due to concerns about Pillar 2 (Platform Economy) during the recent ECOFIN meeting. The Member States agree on Pillar 1 and Pillar 3 of the proposal, but Estonia’s veto has stalled its approval. The presidency will now move from Belgium to Hungary, and Hungary aims to find a compromise and get the proposal approved during their term. New negotiations and consultations with the newly elected European Parliament are expected before a decision is made at the end of 2024.
