Introduction into Tax@SAP S/4HANA: General tax set-up (Part 1)

  • Our series on Tax@SAP S/4HANA discusses general tax set-up issues that a tax department should be aware of during its S/4HANA journey. The second article covers the SAP implementation approach, including SAP Activate, International Roll-out template approach, SAP best practices, and the SAP Model company.
  • All companies using SAP ECC or R/3 will need to migrate to S/4HANA in the next few years. It is crucial for the tax department to be involved in the transformation project due to the ERP system’s significance. Regardless of specific tax functions, the tax department should familiarize itself with general topics and functionalities in S/4HANA to maximize its benefits.
  • Tax@SAP refers to all modules, explicit and “hidden” tax functionalities, and general settings in SAP S/4HANA that can be used for tax purposes. The main challenges for the tax department include acquiring basic knowledge of different options, assessing specific benefits, and implementing appropriate functionality in coordination with other stakeholders in the business.
