The Federal Ministry of Finance has proposed a draft bill to amend customs regulations, including the abolition of the free port of Cuxhaven. This change is due to the disproportionate economic need to maintain it and the minimal advantages it offers under European customs law. The draft also includes revisions to fines in the Military Customs Act and the Customs Administration Act, with the maximum fine for some offenses to be increased to EUR 30,000. After the abolition, goods entering the former free port area will be subject to the general regulations for goods entering the customs territory of the Union.
