Germany’s Federal Environment Agency (UBA) has introduced the “DIVID” online register for companies required to pay a levy into the Single-Use Plastics Fund. The register will be used to enforce the mandatory levy on certain single-use plastic products from 2025. Manufacturers must record necessary data in the register to ensure compliance. The term “manufacturer” includes all businesses introducing goods into the German economic circuit, such as intra-EU sales and eCommerce distance sales. The affected products include containers for immediate consumption food, flexible packaging containing food, beverage containers up to three liters, beverage cups with lids, lightweight plastic bags, wet wipes, balloons (except for industrial/commercial use), and tobacco products with filters. Companies must register before making these products available on the market or selling them to German households via distance communication. There are deadlines for companies already active in the German market.
