The Swedish Ministry of Finance has proposed a VAT exemption for armed forces of NATO member states, including Sweden. This means that the armed forces will be able to get a refund of VAT for goods and services acquired in Sweden during joint defense efforts. The exemption covers goods and services used by the forces or civilian personnel accompanying them, as well as for their messes or canteens. Importation of such goods by the forces and intra-Union acquisition of goods will be exempt from VAT.
