The State Secretary of Finance has answered questions about fuel excise rates, stating that if policy remains unchanged, rates will rise sharply from 1 January 2024. The excise duty reduction will be reversed, resulting in an increase of about 8.7 Euro cents per litre for petrol and 5.6 Euro cents per litre for diesel. The excise duty rates may still change as a result of future decisions. The excise duty rate in the Netherlands will increase to €962 per 1000 liters in 2024. The mileage allowance of €0.22 per kilometer from 2024 is higher than the variable costs of a middle-class petrol car, and an increase in tax-free travel expenses to €0.23 per kilometer is being considered.
