In 1994, the current VAT Act was adopted and now – 29 years later – it is time to put the old act in the drawer and let the new VAT Act (2023:200) take its place instead.The aim has been to create a new, more modern VAT law that is easy to understand and easier to apply. The new law has been given a more modern language and has been adapted to the concepts, structure and systematics of EU law. Whether the new VAT Act will live up to the intended purpose of being easy to understand and easy to apply is a topic for a completely different article, but it is clear in any case that from July 1, 2023, the new VAT Act’s 24 chapters and roughly 700 clauses that must be applied and referred to in, among other things, the companies’ agreements and invoices.
