eInvoicing Country Factsheets for each Member State & other countries
- Finland passed a law in February 2019 requiring public bodies to accept only electronic invoices (eInvoices) compliant with the European standard on eInvoicing (EN).
- The law came into force on April 1, 2019, for central government bodies, but compliance for non-central entities was delayed until April 1, 2020.
- The Finnish law on eInvoicing has two national extensions to the Directive 2014/55/EU. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Finnish treasury revoked the April 1, 2020 deadline, allowing entities to continue using the old national standard until April 1, 2021.
- From April 6, 2021, economic operators and service providers have the obligation to exchange, validate, and process eInvoices aligned with the European standard.
- The Finnish government uses eInvoices to facilitate payment execution and aims to automate the public sector’s eInvoice process.
- The archiving period for eInvoices is ten years, except for invoices related to real estate investments whose archiving period is thirteen years.
