In 2022, companies subject to monthly VAT returns generated an amount of economic VAT of €184 billion, compared to €169 billion in 2021. This 8.9% increase is directly related to the increase in turnover reported by businesses, which increased by 14.5% in 2022.
These developments are explained on the one hand by an increase in the consumer price index of 5.2% between 2021 and 2022 and on the other hand by an increase in the volume of economic activity. They differ from the increases in economic VAT and business turnover in 2021 (+9.7% and +10.7% respectively), which largely corresponded to a recovery in economic activity following the 2020 health crisis.
