The questioner wanted information on whether the sale of “CSGO Empire coins” would be VAT-exempt as currency in accordance with section 13, subsection of the VAT Act. 1, no. 11, letter d. The questioner also wanted information on whether gains from trading in “CSGO Empire coins” would be taxable, but that labor market contributions should not be paid on such gains.

The Tax Council could not confirm that “CSGO Empire coins” were exempt from VAT according to section 13, subsection of the VAT Act. 1, no. 11, letter d, since “CSGO Empire coins” did not only pursue the purpose of being used as a means of payment, since “CSGO Empire coins” could also be used as an access-giving virtual “token” to enter into bets with on the website www .CSGOempire.com . “CSGO Empire coins” were therefore not covered by the VAT exemption on currency.

The Tax Council was able to confirm that gains from individuals trading in “CSGO Empire coins” for speculative purposes are taxable, but that no labor market contribution must be paid from gains from trading in “CSGO Empire coins”.
