VAT reduction
The tax reform proposed by Van Peteghem should also lead to a “sustainable and healthy society”, it sounds. That is why the minister wants to bring VAT to 0 percent for fruit and vegetables, medicines, public transport and diapers, sanitary napkins and tampons .
For the rest, there would be one reduced VAT rate of 9 percent , instead of the two reduced rates that currently exist of 6 and 12 percent. Electricity, gas and tap water will remain at 6 percent .
Fair taxation is also part of Minister Van Peteghem’s plans, but a capital gains tax is no longer part of this legislature. However, the minister proposes to double the tax on securities accounts.
