On 13 December 2022, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) published details about the newly legislated reporting obligation for operators of electronic distribution platforms (EDPs) in relation to transactions made though their platforms.
The Sharing Economy Reporting Regime (SERR) will require EDP operators to report information to the ATO about payments to sellers who use an EDP to make reportable supplies that are “connected with” Australia. The obligation to report information to the ATO applies to resident and nonresident EDP operators alike.
