Taxback International recently requested an update from HMRC in relation to the electronic submission of VAT refund claims via Secure Data Exchange Service (SDES).
On 17 October 2022, HMRC responded by updating the VAT Notice 723A “Refunds of UK VAT for non-UK businesses” in part 2.7 “How businesses established outside the UK can claim refunds of UK VAT” adding the option “Electronic submission of claims” and instruction how to access Secure Data Exchange Service (SDES).
The Secure Data Exchange Service is currently being tested and the “Electronic submission of claims” is optional at this stage.
