The European Commission wants the convergence of VAT eReporting systems

The VAT in Digital Age (ViDA ) action plan highlights the need for tax authorities to use technology to combat tax evasion. He also recommends reconsidering the relevance of certain rules in the all-digital era and wants to impose a single tax identifier for all operators at EU level.

Mr. Agustin Miguel PEREZ , Policy officer in charge of VAT within DG TAXUD affirms that a convergence of reporting systems is not only necessary but essential. He recalls the alarming amount of 134 billion Euros of VAT not collected in 2019 across Europe. He deplores the excessive fragmentation of the eReporting systems of the 27 Member States which plays into the hands of fraud and tax evasion. This great disparity of systems adds to the administrative complexity and slows down the development of intra-community transactions by economic operators operating internationally.
