When the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) was introduced on 1 April 2022, HMRC had estimated that this would impact at least 20,000 manufacturers and importers. We understand the number of businesses which have registered for the tax is significantly lower than that expected. HMRC are now writing to businesses asking them to either register for PPT if they are required to do so, or more unusually, asking them to confirm that they are not required to register.
