Portugal’s Government has announced a EUR 2.4 billion package of support measures that was approved by the Council of Ministers on 5 September 2022. The main tax measure of the package is a proposed reduction in the VAT rate on electricity from 13% to 6%, which has been submitted to parliament as a matter of urgency so it can enter into force by 1 October 2022.
