The German Ministry of Finance has announced a third relief package to help mitigate the impact of rising energy prices, which was presented by the coalition parties on 4 September 2022 and is to be implemented quickly. The package includes short-term aid, housing benefit reforms, numerous tax measures, and structural changes to dampen energy price developments. VAT measures include:
- Extension of the 7% VAT rate for restaurants and catering services; and
- Reduction in the VAT rate to 7% on natural gas supplies from October 2022 until the end of March 2024.
