Australia had adopted B2G Peppol e-Invoicing since July 2022. The mandate is for Australian Federal Government agencies to be able to receive Peppol e-Invoices. To promote the adoption of businesses-to-business (B2B) e-Invoicing, the Department of Treasury took initiative with the Business e-Invoicing Right (BER). A BER would mean that companies are legally required to adopt and transmit e-Invoices upon request from a trading partner who supports e-Invoicing. The BER initiative aims to gradually mandate the usage of e-Invoicing across Australian businesses according to their size.
Under the government’s proposal, the possible rollout for the BER would be as follows;
- 1 July 2023: Large businesses (with a turnover above AUD 50 million)
- 1 July 2024: Medium-sized businesses (between AUD 10 million and 50 million)
- 1 July 2025: Remaining businesses
