France still sends €100 million a year to ‘millionaire haven’ Monaco

An agreement formed in 1963 between General de Gaulle and Prince Rainier III decreed that Monaco would receive part of France’s value-added tax (VAT) income to plug revenue losses following a decision that French people would no longer be able to purchase things in the principality VAT free.
