The current energy crisis has caused energy prices to reach historic highs. Partly because of this, purchasing power has fallen sharply in recent times. The cabinet has already earmarked extra money for an energy surcharge for lower incomes. In order to provide even more relief, the government submitted a bill in April 2022 for a number of purchasing power-supporting measures for households and businesses, including a reduction in VAT on energy (natural gas, district heating and electricity). Energy suppliers will have to ensure that they invoice at the correct VAT rate. If you purchase energy, make sure that you receive a correct invoice. Incorrectly calculated VAT is not deductible and if you do not have a (full) right to deduct, you do not want to pay too much.
