The federal government extends the reduced VAT rate of 6 percent on demolition and reconstruction until the end of 2023.
Belgians who demolish and rebuild a family home will also benefit from a reduced VAT rate of 6 percent after December 31, 2022. The federal government decided this on Friday in the margins of the energy agreement surrounding the postponed nuclear phase-out.
Until a few years ago, demolition and reconstruction for the sole and own family home was only possible in 32 urban areas at the reduced VAT rate. Since the beginning of 2021, that favor has applied throughout the country. Last year, 16,168 applications for the reduced VAT rate were submitted, according to figures requested by MP Steven Matheï (CD&V).
