The French customs authority has issued a release noting that the VAT reverse charge mechanism is automatic and mandatory on imports from 1 January 2022. For this purpose, the notice explains that the reverse charge mechanism applies automatically for any taxpayer registered for an intra-community VAT number in France and subject to the normal tax regime, without any need for prior authorization.
