Reward the purchase of electric cars with the suppression of the Value Added Tax (VAT) is not a new idea. The sector has been requesting it for some time and the Government of Spain has already said that it is evaluating it as a measure to increase sales.
Less in the Canary Islands, where the IGIC (Canary tax equivalent to VAT) for electric vehicles is 0%, in the rest of Spain VAT raises the price of cars by 21% regardless of their mode of propulsion or level of emissions ( the one that varies according to the emissions is the registration tax).
