Five islands of the northeastern Aegean are enjoying a 30% reduced VAT rate. The background of this discount is that these islands had been affected by the refugee crisis the most. Initially, the VAT discount was supposed to expire on 30 June 2018. However, the Greek prime minister has announced that the discount has been extended “for as long as the refugee crisis continues”.
Good news for tourists going to spend their summer on one of those islands.
